I just received a special surprise in the mail today - La Poste en Bolivie postal letterbox. When I say this stamp is a work of art I am doing it an injustice. This stamp, carved by La Chola, is much like the work of our good friend and letterboxing buddy, Brian from TeamGreenDragon and we all know how great his work is. I plan to email La Chola and ask if I can hold onto this box until the POE Gathering so all of our New England friends can enjoy this great work of stamp art.

Our friend, Steve Glaser, from Valley Quest, has a new book coming out in June, "Questing - A Guide to Creating Community Treasure Hunts." Steve co-authored this resource with Delia Clark, who is a co-founder of Vital Communities. This book will serve as a guide to creating treasure hunts that teach and share the special and historical places in your own community. Relying on the success of the Valley Quest program, of which Steve is the co-ordinator, this guide will help other communities replicate the Valley Quest program. Groups are encouraged to create their own program to not only foster the growing letterboxing/questing pastime, but to promote those special places that should be celebrated and preserved in every area of the country. We wish Steve luck with the book and look forward to the continued success of the Valley Quest program and the new programs that will spring up due to this new resource. Look for it at your local bookstore.

Silent Doug has done it again! He has totally revamped his Links section to include every letterboxing link imaginable - from individual's pages to articles about letterboxing to you name it. Try this out and get educated!

I have just finished carving a HH that will go to England with us this fall. Since the POE gathering is this month, I thought I would treat it like a traveler. To get this stamp, you must give me the departure date for our Dartmoor trip.

After a chilly VT weekend, we are back and ready to face the week. Daily high temperatures never made it past 5 degrees! This week's Poll of the Week relates to that bone-chilling cold that we have all been experiencing in the Northeast and how it may affect our letterboxing habits.
Our Box of the Week is flutterbyandfatcat's Cup O' Joe. Along with hot chocolate, a good cup of coffee is the best way to warm up after a cold day out there find little tupperware containers buried in the snow or frozen to the ground!

Don't forget to sign our Guest Map below if you are new here! Thanks.

Our new Box of the Week is up - sadie&russ's X-Y Twister. This mystery letterbox is located somewhere in New Haven county - the rest is up to you! It appears that the influences and contributions of legerdemaine & Mapsurfer are rubbing off on all of us - which is the highest form of flattery. There seems to be a maturing process through which letterbox placers go - beginning with explicit clues, moving on to slightly less explicit, to mystery clues and finally to those wild, practically un-solveable clues that drive us all crazy! Thanks to sadie&russ for the latest entry in this genre.

Our Dartmoor Trip is sold out. We have 11 travelers who will be attending, as well as 1 possible. Thanks for all of the inquiries and email! Our Poll of the Week relates to posting a diary of our trip when we get back. Place your vote now!

Well, back from a weekend in VT that included frozen water pipes, cable and power outages! Sue and I still found time to go snow-shoeing Sunday afternoon, which was the highlight of the weekend! Didn't letterbox - but our power and water are back working - I guess we have tons for which to be thankful!

Just posted both the new Poll of the Week and our new Letterbox of the Week, which is Northstar's Grave Matters [A Cemetery Search], located in Wallingford, CT. The clues take you all around this mystery cemetery and will really give your compass a workout! This would be a good box for new letterboxers to learn the proper use of a compass, since you can find your answers by finding the proper name on a headstone.

As of tonight, there is only 1 spot left for our Dartmoor England trip and then we will be maxed out at 12 travelers for the accommodations that have already been reserved. Thanks to our group and to those of you who inquired about it.

I was just made aware of this article on letterboxing that ran in the Boston Globe on December 28. Thanks Chapuline de Mexico!

This Friday is the cutoff date for the Dartmoor trip in September. We have a great group going and only 2 spots open. Pricing is fantastic. Email me now if you are interested.
Picture this - finding the Cranmere Pool letterbox on it's 150th anniversary year!

Here's a great newspaper article on letterboxing that was published in the Connecticut Post. You may recognize the chap in the photo! It's Letteboxer2002 and photos of Dartmoor stamps from his England trip early last year. Hopefully our group will be getting some of those same stamped images when we hit the moors in September of this year!

Wanda & Pete's Interview is up and ready to go! Let me know what you think! This is the 3rd in our multi-part series of interviews with letterboxers who have made a significant contribution to this pastime. Also, we hope that this is a way to document some of the early and current history of this game!

Sue and I roughed the cold weather today and found 6 letterboxes today. It was an RTRW day since we did 5 of her boxes. Check out our Finds Page 2 for the frosty details!

Friday, January 9

Wanda & Pete just emailed me their completed interview. I have just one additional question to ask and get answered and it will be posted on the Interview Series page. Do not miss this interview!
I should have it ready by Sunday or Monday.

Don't forget to sign our Guest Map located below. We are curious as to where you come from. Be sure to sign in and stake your claim on the map!

So, how do you like the new look? I finally found the time and the html color chart to make a few changes to the home page. Hope it's not too difficult to read. If you find problems reading the type with the colored background, please email me via the email link below. I can lighten up the color or even get rid of it. Thanks!

It's been decided! The Winter Gathering to celebrate the new Letterboxing NorthEast Talk List is set for February 29th [Sadie Hawkins' Day - watch out single guys!!!] in Westborough, MA from 10 am to 2 pm.
Thanks to the efforts of WarriorWoman, who has done most of the groundwork; Phyto & Isoceles, who had a sit-down with Farmer Harvey and Brian of TeamGreenDragon who will expertly carve the event stamp.
The location is the same place as the Peace on Earth letterbox in a very letterbox-rich part of MA. Hopefully there will be huge turnout to celebrate this new talk list. See ya there!

Our new Poll of the Week relates to your plans as to attending the gathering.

Our Box of the Week is Artistic Dog Poo, placed by BookWorm and located in Canton, CT. This box was the brainchild of her son, Tim, who came up with the design and placement of the letterbox. It is in the same location of another of her letterboxes, The Runaway Soccer Ball.
