I added a new Guest Map, whose link is located at the bottom of the left column of this page just below our new Poll of the Week. Please sign in our Guest Map as it places a little push pin on the world map in your location so that we can all see from what countries our guests are. Don't forget to take the Poll that will be changing weekly on Monday along with our Box of the Week.

This morning I heard of the death of Mr. Rogers.
How many memories and lives has he shaped during the course of his 30 year career as the cardigan-clad, kindly host of his award-winning PBS children's show?
These are quotes from Fred Rogers, host of
"Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," from Associated Press interviews and courtesy of CNN's' website tribute to Mr. Rogers:

"People say to my wife, `What's he like?' What you see is what you get. It's just who I happen to be."

"I feel the greatest gift we can give to anybody is the gift of our honest self."

"Of course, I get angry. Of course, I get sad. I have a full range of emotions. I also have a whole smorgasbord of ways of dealing with my feelings. That is what we should give children. Give them ... ways to express their rage without hurting themselves or somebody else. That's what the world needs."

"I have really never considered myself a TV star. I always thought I was a neighbor who just came in for a visit."

"You know, you don't have to look like everybody else to be acceptable and to feel acceptable."

"There's a generous current in the American spirit. And if we can simply give voice to that once in a while, I think it's a good message."

Rest in Peace, Mr. Rogers . . . and thank you for making us all feel special and unique while we were guests in your neighborhood!

I found this great Dutch Letterboxing site that had a very thorough history of Dartmoor National Park, from prehistoric to modern times. Dartmoor's history dates back over 10,000 years ago, with visible signs still today that date back to 4000 BC! Living in the US, it's difficult to imagine something that ancient. Check out this site - it is very well done.

The Box of the Week is Honest Abe Lincoln, which is the first in a Presidential Series of boxes by JustBeth, Aaron & Max, located in Middlefield, CT. More to come as this series develops.

Today I added a Guest Book for all visitors to sign in and leave some feedback. There is also a place to leave your website so I can take a look and maybe get some ideas! I also couldn't resist adding the Pepe Search Link at the top of the page. Can you guess why? How many of you share your last name with a search engine?! They even have a Pepe Gear Store! Why don't you buy a mug, mousepad or sweatshirt with the search engine that shares our name?

We added a new page to archive past Boxes of the Week. The link is located under the current Box of the Week. This is a quick way to find one of the letterboxes that we think are unique or special. Try them out!

Instead of a Box of the Week, I think a Site of the Week is in order. The Dartmoor Letterboxing Club of England is hosting our own Alan Smith's current visit to Dartmoor National Park. The following link will bring you to their Photo Album" and the 2 photos taken of Letterboxer2002 during this letterboxing visit to England. Alan's original post letting them know of his pending visit is found here.
The Dartmoor Letterboxing site has a huge amount of info regarding the national park and it's boxes, which number over 2000, as well as links to other Dartmoor boxing sites. It all begins with this welcome. Their moderator recently posted this following message and invitation to all Yahoo Groups Letterboxing USA members. I spoke to Alan briefly at the MA Winter Gathering in January and he was very excited about this upcoming trip. We are happy to hear that things are going well for him!

Wanda & Pete recently entered Letterboxing History with their 2000th box find! To celebrate that accomplishment, they have placed the new 2 Years - 2000 Boxes Letterbox. This is our Box of the Week, in honor of those 2 letterboxing pioneers who have done so much to promote this hobby of ours.
Don't forget to visit their Hitchhiker List, which details each and every move of Hitchhikers as they make their way around the country and the world. They do a wonderful job and we were very pleased to meet and exchange stamps with them at the recent Winter Gathering in Sharon, MA.

Sue and I had planned to go letterboxing on Saturday earlier in the week and even though the area received over 8" of snow yesterday, we went. It was a great crisp and clear day. Our destination was Holcomb Farm in West Granby, CT which is the home of many boxes. We found the locations for 2 boxes but the snow cover made it impossible to find the boxes even after we dug many inches down into the snow. The clues were great; but the snow was too deep! This got me thinking . . . wouldn't it be a good idea to come up with a universal way we can all rate the boxes we plant that are obtainable all year around, winter included? Maybe come up with a symbol - a snow flake? This way crazy people like us would have an idea what we were getting into!!
We did end up finding 2 boxes: The Bluebird and Four From One, both placed by Tree Fairy & Chester Copperpot. These were 2 great stamps, made by Chester Copperpot. Sue & I got to meet and talk to Tree Fairy but she didn't have her stamp with her which meant no exchange! Tree Fairy told us that her husband, Chester Copperpot, makes all of their stamps and even has some for sale in the small gift shop there at Holcomb Farm. This is a beautiful location that we look forward to revisiting in the spring.

Today we added 2 new pages linked to the home page: a page with the boxes we have found and a page devoted to the exchanges we have made. All of the exchanges come from the Winter Gathering in Sharon, MA.
We recently passed the 1000th visitor mark. While this is very exciting for our first effort, we would like to thank all of the positive comments, suggestions and return visitors we receive. We pledge to continue to improve this site, incorporating many of your suggestions. Thanks!!!

It looks like Music Woman has been busy the last week of January . . . she has planted 2 boxes in
what appears to be an old church series:
Old Methodist Church on January 25 and Marlborough Congregational Church on January 28. These 2 distinct boxes receive our Box[es] of the Week honors.
One note: Please do not access the Congregational Church letterbox on weekdays between 7 am through 6 pm, as this facility is used as a daycare and we want to keep this box where it was meant to be planted. Who said Connecticut boxing has slowed down in the winter?!
