Put up the new Letterbox Poll of the Week, relating to Hitchhikers and whether they are too commonplace or still a thrill!! Don't forget to place your vote - and thanks for stopping by!

This week's Box of the Week is Butterfly's A Fishy Tale. Read and enjoy the clues; they are written in beautiful Butterfly-speak! Wing off to Niantic and find this new letterbox before it flies [or climbs as this fish story says] away!

Started out the weekend Friday night with Rubaduc's VT Tree Letterbox at the VT Welcome Center in Guilford, VT [Great stamp, RTRW!] Then did 3 of the Valley Quests and found the Grafton Ponds and Grafton Cave quest boxes. But the best thing was that we went away with our best friends, 2 couples from Southington, CT, who started letterboxing this weekend with us! That's 4 more letterboxing converts!!!
Our new count is P0 F157 X77.

The new Box of the Week is up - the Drew Clan's Butterfly Kisses. It's a mystery box located in "Nearby, CT." Good luck!

Sue & I recently ordered and just received our Valley Quest book. Valley Quest was one of the first organizations to promote letterboxing in the US [They call it "quests or questing."] The quests are all in the mid to upper areas of Vermont and New Hampshire, primarily along the CT River corridor. The quest book is really laid out well and has some great features. Terrific maps show towns with quests and each quest has a natural or cultural lesson with which to better aquaint the letterboxer. The boxes are constantly monitored and checked by a group of volunteers to be sure everything is intact. After you obtain 20 stamped images, you can photocopy and mail them to Valley Quest and receive a special embroidered patch and certificate, recognizing your achievement! For further info, click here: Valley Quest. We are planning to try a couple of the quests this coming Saturday in Vermont. Stay tuned for a report next week.

We were saddened to learn that Erik Davis, The Vermont Viking, had entered hospice. Erik has been an avid letterboxer and a true pioneer in the field. He "lives and breathes letterboxing" [to coin a well-known phrase from the Smithsonian Article] with an enthusiam that is difficult to beat. His wife, Susan, has written a brief note,
100 Boxes for Eric, that is posted on the LBNA website, which Erik co-founded in it's early days. Be sure to send Erik a postcard with a note and your personal letterboxing stamp. This is the least we can do for someone who has been so instrumental in advancing this wonderful hobby of ours! Thanks.

Sue & I made the LBNA 100 Page after we find out 100th letterbox. Thanks for including us, Randy.
The Pepe's and Davidow's are extremely excited about the upcoming MAINE Event gathering in Brunswick, ME on August 9. We all plan to be there and already have rooms booked. DebLee promises a day of exchanges, good eats, boxing, swimming and relaxing - hope that you can all join us!

I posted our new Box of the Week, Jumble Series, placed by Teach & Preach. This is a series of 22 boxes in about a 3 mile hike. Looking to increase those Find numbers? Here is a place to get 22 "F's" all in one location!
Hopefully the sun will come out this afternoon! Sue and I have plans to go to Windsor's Northwest Park this afternoon. Let you know later how that went.

Thanks for stopping by!

Our vacation report:
Sue and I had a wonderful week, despite some raining weather on the first and second weekend. We traveled to NH from VT for a day letterboxing amid all of the mosquitos and the no-see-ums [I saw them and felt them!!]
We started the day with the most difficult hike of the day - The Honey Hill Letterboxes in Swanzey, NH. The views of Monadnock Mountain were great and well worth our effort - as well as the 2 great stamps! From there we journeyed to Hillsborough, NH and did RTRW's Franklin Pierce Letterbox, Fuller Public Library [wonderful carved umbrella stand - watch for the picture in our photo album as soon as our film gets developed,] Fox Forest [mosquitos almost picked me up and carried me away - not an easy task!!] Deering Overlook [Beautiful vista and welcomed breezes,] Deering Public Library [so small we drove by it the first time!] and finally Lovely Weed [which is almost a drive up - I literally parked 5 feet from the box - we were so tired at that point!] Wonderful stamps and a great day that ended up in a quaint pub in downtown Keene, NH to share stories, food and brew!
Since we had previously done most of the southern VT boxes, we managed to get the Man in Stone Box in the Dorset Quarry of Dorset, VT which is the oldest quarry in the US - established in 1785. Took a picture of Sue standing next to "Otto" and again will add it to our Photo Album soon.
In between the letterboxing, we shopped the outlets in Manchester, VT, took the canoe out several days and hiked. Great, great week! Plan to hit the Drew's Monadnock and the Petersborough boxes next time.
